Walmart challenged three directors, including Marc Forster, to each make a one-minute film based on the six items of a single Walmart receipt (bananas, paper towels, batteries, scooter, wrapping paper, and a video baby monitor). Forster wrote the original script, set in a post-apocalyptic future, and filmed it in the Salton Sea Desert. In its first-ever sponsorship of the Oscars, Walmart wanted to celebrate creativity and storytelling, and encouraged the directors to bring their different styles and individual voices to their stories.
